Our Story

A Twenty-Year Partnership from the Beginning

Café Femenino was born in 2003, when 464 women farmers in northern Peru took the bold step of separating their coffee production from the men’s. Before that decisive action, these women had little economic control in their towns or families. Through Café Femenino, for the first time ever, they had a product and an income of their own.

For twenty years, we’ve roasted and sold Café Femenino coffees. We are proud to say that we are one of their original customers and supporters. We believe in Café Fem’s mission: ending the cycle of poverty in coffee growing lands by giving women farmers decision-making power over the coffee they grow.

JVG Café Femenino is grown on thousands of women-owned and women-operated farms across ten countries. Each bag tells a story. Join the global movement today!

Giving Women Their Fair Share

The women farmers who produce JVG Café Femenino coffee are paid directly for the coffee they produce:

We pay a 2¢ per lb premium over Fair Trade prices directly to the women coffee growers participating in the Café Femenino Program

For each pound of coffee purchased, 5¢ is donated to the Café Femenino Foundation

All monies are paid directly to the women who produced the coffee, and they are empowered to use it any way they wish
