This Organic Papua New Guinea comes to us from the Roots No.1 Farmers Association co-op in Okapa District of the Eastern Highlands. Coffees from this origin can often be underrated or underappreciated. We won’t let you make that mistake.
Unlike other Indonesian coffees like Sumatra, with their strong love-it-or-hate-it earthy taste, this PNG is much fruitier. It is also more dynamic and versatile. Not only do you have the tropical taste of clean, juicy melon with a subtle spice flavor, it also tastes great in a variety of brewing methods. So try them all!
You may have seen the price and been confused. Our last PNG single-origin wasn’t certified organic like this new one, yet the price hasn’t changed. Surely that must be a clerical error. Nope. We want to bring you the most exceptional coffees we can but it’s also important for us to keep them accessible. Part of that accessibility is affordability.
Some background on the co-op: The Roots No.1 association began in 2012 with 179 smallholder farms and has since grown to 1600 farmers! This coffee is picked and processed with a washed fermentation right on the farms. The coffee is fermented in tubs or bags for 24-36 hours, washed with clean water, and set out on raised patios to dry. Once the coffee is dry it is sent to the Roots mill to be exported.
